And it's only about 10 secs on cd if they start an attack right after it i can still root them to save the carry or even ult after 6 so i'll "waste" my q 100 times on a ward.

Its because u cant hit a ward with a skills. Only with skills that aply on hit effects like shiv Q, poppy Q, nasus Q etc...
